Respite (STA)

At Be U Wellness, we offer boutique Short-Term Accommodation (STA) and respite stays designed to support individuals living with disability in a calm, safe, and nurturing environment. We recommend an initial short visit before an overnight stay. We are happy to give you a guided tour of the property when it is convenient for you.

What makes our offering truly unique is that it has been created by someone who understands the journey firsthand and designed with lived disability experience at its core. As a person living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), our founder has intentionally designed a space that prioritises comfort, dignity, flexibility, and genuine wellbeing — not just care. This insight has shaped a more personalised, boutique model of respite that prioritises comfort, emotional wellbeing, and a low-stimulation, home-like setting over institutional-style care.

More than just accommodation, Be U Wellness is a wellness-focused sanctuary — a place where participants can rest, reset, and feel supported in a way that nurtures both body and mind.

“At Be U Wellness, rest is not something you earn — it’s something you deserve.”

Wellness-Integrated Respite (Our Point of Difference)

At Be U Wellness, we go beyond traditional respite by offering a wellness-integrated experience. Participants have the option to enhance their stay with in-house:

  • > Massage therapy
  • > Sound healing sessions
  • > Relaxation and holistic wellbeing supports

These services are optional, pre-booked, and payable via invoice, and are designed to complement – not replace – funded supports.

We offer a range of Respite options that support your independence and confidence.

NDIS Short-Term Accommodation (STA)

Our services are aligned with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and are suitable for participants with approved funding for:

  • > Short-Term Accommodation and Assistance (STA)
  • > Respite care to support both participants and their informal supports
  • > Capacity building through new environments and experiences

We offer flexible stays for up to 14 days and recognise that short-term accommodation may be needed for unexpected situations, carer respite, or post-hospital recovery with appropriate support.

Our Boutique Accommodation Offering

This boutique model allows us to deliver more personalised support, greater flexibility and choice. We offer a peaceful, low-stimulation environment ideal for rest and recovery. We provide a premium, small-scale setting featuring:

  • > 4 private bedrooms
  • > Capacity for up to 4 guests at any one time
  • > A calm, low-density oasis (no overcrowding or institutional feel)
  • > High-quality finishes and a comfortable, homely atmosphere

FREQUENTLY ASKED (STA) QUESTIONS

How much does NDIS respite care cost per day & how is the cost calculated?

NDIS pricing is set by the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits and may change each financial year. As at 2025–2026, standard rates for 1:1 overnight respite are approximately:

  • Weekday: $346.51 per day
  • Saturday: $384.92 per day
  • Sunday: $423.32 per day
  • Public Holiday: $461.72 per day

At Be U Wellness, we also support clients who may benefit from respite while still preferring to return to the comfort and familiarity of their own home at the end of the day. To accommodate this, we offer both Short Day Respite (3 hours) and Full Day Respite (7 hours) options without overnight accommodation. This provides participants with the opportunity to engage in social connection, community access, wellness activities, or simply enjoy a supportive change of environment while continuing to maintain their usual home routine. Standard Day Respite rates generally range from approximately $160–$250 during non-public holiday periods, depending on individual support needs, required support ratios, and any additional supports required.

Higher rates may apply on public holidays or where participants require high-intensity or complex support needs. Please contact us directly for current pricing and personalised options.

What is Short Term Accommodation (STA) under the NDIS?

Short Term Accommodation (STA), sometimes called respite, is temporary accommodation and support funded through the NDIS. It allows participants to stay away from their usual home environment while receiving care, support, and assistance in a safe and supportive setting. STA may be used for:

  • >informal carer respite;
  • >building independence and daily living skills;
  • >social and community participation; or
  • >simply providing a supportive change of environment.

At Be U Wellness, we aim to provide a calm, welcoming, and participant-centred experience.

Is NDIS Respite the same as STA?

In most cases, yes. “Respite” is the commonly used term, while “Short Term Accommodation (STA)” is the official NDIS terminology. Both refer to short stays away from home where participants receive accommodation and support in a safe and supportive environment.

What is the difference between NDIS respite care and STA?

Respite care and STA (Short Term Accommodation) refer to the same NDIS support. STA is the official NDIS term for respite – temporary accommodation away from your usual home that provides overnight support. STA funding is typically available to participants who have Core Supports funding in their NDIS plan and where the support is considered reasonable and necessary in line with their goals and circumstances. Eligibility and funding availability vary between participants and individual plans.

How long can someone stay in STA?

NDIS STA funding is commonly funded for up to 28 days per year, which can be used flexibly, such as in blocks of up to 14 days at a time. It is designed to be used periodically rather than as long-term housing, though exceptions exist for specific needs. The number of days funded can vary depending on individual plans and circumstances. Stays may range from a single overnight stay through to longer short-term support arrangements.

  • Flexibility: Can be used for weekends, one-off stays, or fortnightly blocks.
  • Exceptions: More than 28 days may be funded in exceptional circumstances.
  • Purpose: To provide a break for both the participant and their primary caregivers.
Are there different NDIS line items for STA?

Yes – the NDIS uses different line item codes depending on the day of the week and the level of support required (standard vs high physical). Standard STA supports generally fall under line items beginning with 01_799 and the main NDIS line item codes for standard STA/respite are: 01_799_0104_1_1 (Weekday), 01_799_0104_1_1_S (Saturday), 01_799_0104_1_1_U (Sunday), and 01_799_0104_1_1_P (Public Holiday). High Physical Support uses codes starting with 01_800. These codes include both accommodation and basic personal care.
